Emedicine.com
Pros: emedicine is a product of WebMD, a trusted source of online medical information. Free registration allows users to access medical news, journals, and other exclusive content.
Cons: With over 6,000 articles on every specialty, the site may be overwhelming to some users. The home page is cluttered and not particularly intuitive. Advertising is prominent and distracting.
The Bottomline: Tons of highly technical information is available to those willing to spend some time looking through the resources.

eMedicine is an offshoot of
the widely known WebMD and Medscape sites. Users are able to search Medscape,
MedscapeCME, eMedicine, Drugs, MEDLINE or all of them for information. Users
may browse by specialties in Medicine, Surgery, or Pediatrics. With 10,000
physicians contributing, the site claims to be a “continually updated clinical
reference.”

eMedicine’s primary purpose is to provide reference materials. Users may use the search feature, which may search various WebMD affiliated sites, or browse by specialty.
Articles
Articles are sorted by subjects: Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics. Each
section is divided into specialty areas, with multiple subspecialties within
the Pediatric area. Once a specialty area is chosen, users are directed
to a listing of articles within the section. Each article is written by
medical professionals and the language is quite technical.

References
For each diagnosis, multiple areas are offered for further exploration.
Differential diagnosis, lab tests, treatments, follow-up, and multimedia
options are all offered.

Links
Each section provides links to eMedicine’s partner websites for further
study. For example, eMedicine’s neurosurgery guide contains links to eMedicineHealth
articles on epilepsy.
Unique Features
eMedicine offers Continuing Medical Education materials to health professionals.
References on this site are definitely geared toward those with some medical
knowledge. Updated medical news is prominently displayed on the homepage.
